On the last day of June, Scott and I received an email from the Chicago Cubs historian Ed Hartig. In case you don’t know Scott Brown (who happens to be my cousin) and I wrote a biography on the great Cubs pitcher Mordecai “Three Finger” Brown. Scott also is the president of the Mordecai Brown Legacy Foundation and I’m vp.
The email told us the Cubs were planning a 10th anniversary celebration of the 2016 team and also wanted to recognize their other two wins in 1907 and 1908. Mordecai was their star pitcher back then and is in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
The book is now 20 years old, and years before the book was published Scott met Mordecai’s great nephews Joe and Fred Massey and formed a close bond. They had known Mordecai when they were boys. Their mother was his niece. Mordecai passed away in 1948 and was inducted into the Hall the following year. Scott and I have done many events over the years. Here’s a picture from one of those events. Fred Massey is the elderly gentleman here and Scott is to the right of the sign. This was taken in Terre Haute, Indiana, a few years back.
A few more pictures from the past. The last one here is the previous time Scott and I were at Wrigley. It was not during the season and we had been given a private tour.
The Cubs invited us to their event to unveil the 1907-1908 part of their memorial. They housed us and treated us to a game at Wrigley. It was a wonderful day! Here are a few pictures.
