My One Word for 2026 is wonder. I’m not sure how it came to me. It popped into my head, and I thought that was a cool idea. I’m in wonder at God’s creation. But as I looked at scripture I discovered something else. Over and over the Bible talks about God’s deeds, signs, and wonders. It used wonder most often as a noun. Something God performed. I’m sure it will mean many things to me this year, many important things.
My word for 2025 was pause, and it’s still something I intend to practice. But this year isn’t as much about what I will do as it is about observing what God does, and I’m excited to learn from this word!
Do you choose a word each year rather than a New Year’s resolution? I’d love to hear about your word in the comments if you’d like to share. But whatever you choose, whether it is a resolution or choosing a word, or just facing life with a fresh outlook, I wish you the best. I also wish you time that includes pausing and wondering. Happy New Year!
I do choose a word each year. My word this year is deliberate. I want to be more deliberate about what I do and my why. In reflecting on last year, I realized I didn’t really ‘do’ much and while that may have been exactly what 2025 was to be about (my word was align) this year I want to look back and see that I have done something.
Wonder and deliberate are great words for 2026. so are pause and align. I have never considered having a word for the year. Cynthia and Tina, both of you have given me some inspiration. For my first word it will be Grace (graciousness). Give myself grace when I fall short in any area of my life, strive for growth, not perfection. Grace to everyone that falls short of our expectations, learn to love when you hit pot holes in life.
I agree these are terrific words! I do need to ask for grace often and give it to myself when I fall short.
Thanks for sharing Susan and Tina!
