The last thing I want to note about road trips is that you can often discover some real gems not far from home. On this particular trip, we stopped in Erie, PA. We could have just driven home from there, but our plan was to explore. The B&B we stayed at was downtown, but surprisingly quiet. We walked to the Lake Erie lakeshore from there, ate at a restaurant, and watched boats.
First of all, isn’t this the prettiest highway rest stop? It’s in Pennsylvania.
Lake Erie in July is pretty nice.
There is a state park a short drive from our B&B called Presque Isle. Oh my goodness, what a great find. Here are a few pictures. It’s a narrow peninsula that sticks out into Lake Erie. So beautiful with several sandy beaches and a gorgeous lighthouse. I had thought we left lighthouses behind in New England so this was a wonderful surprise.
Thanks for sharing my mini travelog. What surprises have you discovered on your road trips?
