This comes from The Religious Songs of Connacht<\/em><\/strong> by Douglas Hyde (1860-1949, the first president of Ireland and the founder of the Gaelic League.) He complied old songs and poems collected from the people in Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Graces of the Holy Ghost<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

May the grace of the Holy Ghost be gained by us,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

And the true Faith be kept unstained by us,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

While we follow the path of the saints, endeavouring<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

To walk in the temple of Christ unwavering.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

And may we seek the eternal Trinity<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

Trusting in Christ and in Christ\u2019s divinity,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

Helping the poor and relieving them<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

Walking with God and receiving them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

Devils that tempt us, still repelling them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

All our faults to the Church confessing them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

Fighting with all that wounds, with energy,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

Ceasing from lies and evil calumny.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

Let us not mix with strife and devilry,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

Fall we to prayer instead of revelry,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n

Thanking the Lord for all his graciousness.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
