{"id":5512,"date":"2022-12-09T08:09:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-09T08:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cindyswriting.com\/?p=5512"},"modified":"2022-12-05T20:13:04","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T20:13:04","slug":"a-look-at-celtic-prayer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cindyswriting.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/09\/a-look-at-celtic-prayer\/","title":{"rendered":"A Look at Celtic Prayer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 2010 I posted this (note that the book Celtic Wisdom is now The Roots of Irish Wisdom.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From my book,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cindyswriting.com\/index.php\/the-roots-of-irish-wisdom\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"4474\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CELTIC WISDOM, TREASURES FROM IRELAND<\/a><a href=\"#\">&nbsp;<\/a>&#8220;Prayer was not reserved primarily for church: it was a natural outpouring of the culture, a culture that saw power in the natural world, one that did not see a division between the spiritual and the secular, one that did not judge worthiness&#8211;Jesus died for all. The Irish prayers reflected the life of the people and were melodic, continual and close to the heart.&#8221;&nbsp;Here is one prayer quoted in the book:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>God be in my head and in my understanding; God be in my eyes and in my looking; God be in my mouth and in my speaking; God be in my heart and in my thinking; God be at my end and at my departing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>These were simple prayers that made use of repetition for the purpose of memorization. But they were also heartfelt and have a kind of relevance that speaks to us today.
