Our 2021 summer vacation (rescheduled from 2020) was a family vacation to Maine. We stayed near Acadia National Park, a national treasure. All our kids and their families went. Everyone had a fantastic time. Since Tom and I hadn’t had a vacation in a while, we decided to take a few days on the way back. It’s normally a 16-hour drive from where we live. We stretched it out over four days. If you can do it, I recommend road trips. I’ll share a few things I learned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Those exit signs can hide some truly fabulous places. We drove about 3.5 hours the way we had come to York, Maine. I remembered seeing the signs for it on the way down, but on the interstate you just see lots of trees. They are beautiful, forests blanketed by ferns. But behind it all was the coast!<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    York Harbor Inn. This is where we stayed. Yes, that’s the ocean right across the street! Highly recommend this place.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Tom said, “Look at that. Two of your favorite things: blue hydrangeas and an iron fence.” He wasn’t wrong.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

      And then there was the coast. Right across from the inn was a park and a beach. We saw three weddings going on in different stages, some at the beach, some leaving the restaurants. Even so it was quiet overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Wandering down the coast, we visited the Nubble Lighthouse. Very iconic. I suppose lots of people have a photo like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
